"You have to be good, and if you can't be good, you have to fast, and if you can be neither, you have to be likable." When I first heard that, it irked me. I didn't know why at the time, but now I understand myself much better. The advice I got from other artists had a theme that felt like the wisdom of a pick-up artist. The type of logic that sounded good at the moment; however, you end up feeling cheated in practice. Even the helpful stuff never accounted for the cost of being Black and making comics. I am not talking about money, either.
